I had a coworker attempting to set that record. He was having a hard time getting the material right for the hula hoop. You can’t just buy one that size. You gotta make it. Strength/weight/stiffness all play a big role.

Looks like it. It’s possible he just sucked. He was trying to keep the weight down instead of just dealing with it.
